Village Idol

This idea uses the power of social networking and the Internet to bring talented artists from remote regions in to the main stream or the world stage.

On account of globalization and an inherent need to earn more money, many cultures are losing performing artists to global professions. And those who still hold on and continue with their cultural arts are finding it difficult to sustain their livelihood for want of both an audience as well as money.

Even otherwise on a general level, every region of the world has to have its share of performance artists like singers, dancers, if not any cultural performance. Given the right exposure these artists can scale newer heights which they couldn’t have otherwise. Instead of enthralling just a select few at local level, the Internet gives them an opportunity to perform in front of a large audience.

However, given th low levels of awareness, literacy and the above mentioned shift to professional work from art means this vast pool of talent remains untapped.

So if there are some enterprising youth, who can take the power of the web to the villages and small towns and unearth the next global idol, they would not only create a viable income stream as a producer of the neo web talent, but also contribute in the growth of these artists and their art on a wider scale.

What you can do is setup inexpensive web pages, let’s say a blog, a myspace page or even a Youtube channel. And then use these to media to showcase the people you have unearthed.

Considering the web is always looking for fresher things, your venture is sure to capture attention. Whether this attention can be sustained would depend on the performance of the individual itself.

The income streams vary, depending on the ultimate goal of your venture. You can use your website/blog/channel as a medium to attract advertisers. You can set this whole endeavor as a business and ask for newer talents to contact you to give them an exposure on your site for some fee. As you might be aware, business and money making opportunities on the web are aplenty and all you need is your own imagination.

The best part about this whole exercise is the ease with which one can go about doing it. All you would need really is a recording of your “Web Idol” showing off his or her talent and everything else can be easily setup. The cost of setting up this business itself is to my mind minimal.

So who is going to launch the next superstar?
