Mobile Cyber Café - Mobile Internet Café

While others are focusing on just bringing basic telephone service down the dusty road of developing countries. Here is an idea from Kenya, mobile cyber cafes.

The question isn’t if a mobile internet café is possible but if the cost of the technology can be recouped in a reasonable way. Using either a mobile broadband setup or a satellite dish for transmission, a cyber café on wheels could be created to allow people to have access to the network.

In the UK I’ve seen mobile internet access available on the roving library mobiles and I used to have a 45’ motor coach with a satellite dish on the top that had about a T-1 connection for downloading. When the was stopped I could flip the computer on and tell the software to get the dish to align with the satellite automatically.

A mobile internet café could be built using a used shipping container on the back of a truck. As long as you can find a way to keep it cool and to pull it from place to place, that would work well. Another 40’ mobile internet café in the Philippines managed to put 15 computer stations in that space. They turn the café into a call center at night to make additional revenue from it.

Here are some photos of a smaller mobile internet cafe in operation.
