Helping Commuters to Reduce Expenses and Their Carbon Footprint at the Same Time
OK, we all know what a pain it is sitting in traffic every morning and every evening on your way to and from work. You see the same cars blocking the same lanes with the same people in them. More often than not, there’ll only be one person in the car, namely, the driver.
You drive past bus stops, taxi ranks, train stations all with people waiting for their ride to work. All of these vehicles on the road with just one driver, day in day out is having a big impact on the environment and our wallets.
A way to combat this would be to start a car share scheme. An online database could be set up for drivers and people who need to get from A to B as quickly and easily as possible. You could register your details as a driver and post where you go to and from each day and at what times.
An online search could then be done by people who require transport to see of you’re going their way. When you have a ‘match’ your details can be submitted securely and contact can be made via email or SMS text messaging.
Once this happens, then the driver and passenger(s) agree a daily or weekly or monthly fee to contribute towards the cost of fuel. This payment can be made online, upfront and will realistically work out cheaper than public transport.
This will have much less impact on the environment because in theory, if it works, they’ll be less cars on the road. It’s not just case of giving someone a ride to work, it’s a business deal where all parties who are involved benefit.
The motorist cuts his fuel costs, the passenger(s) reduce their travel expenses and the carbon footprint starts to shrink.
This project could be developed by someone anywhere in the world and targeted to metropolitan areas in need.
